location scouting
Seeburgpark - Kreuzlingen
Location scouting is one of those fun, yet challenging endeavours you get to do as a photographer. There are so many factors that have to match, before you have found a suitable place for a photoshoot.
Firstly, it has to be the perfect setting for your clients. Either, it is a place they chose because it is somehow special to them, or you have to find a location that reflects their personalities.
A fun family session may take place in a park with lots of color and maybe a playground for the children to have fun at. Alternatively, you could also go to the countryside and find an endless, blooming meadow. If your clients live in a larger city, you could have an urban shoot with industrially inspired concrete walls. Always make sure, it fits the clients› personalities and they feel comfortable at the location.
For Couple’s Portraits, you have to find a quiet, secluded place, where the couple can be relaxed enough to show authentic emotions. In order to have stunning images, though, you need to consider the background as well. Romantic places, such as castles or parks provide timelessly elegant images.
Secondly, take into consideration, the time of day you want to schedule the photoshoot. Midday sun is a real challenge to shoot in, and if you have a location with little or no shade, you will have a hard time getting the images you desire. Personally, I prefer morning shoots because the light is a more neutral color and in summer, the heat is not making the clients uncomfortable.
Furthermore, public places can be quiet on weekday mornings but buzzing with people on weekends, which makes it incredibly difficult to have a relaxed photoshoot. So, remember to schedule your photo session at a less busy time of the day. Early mornings are great for the light and to avoid the crowds.
Very important to remember is the fact, that private or public places such as parks or castles often require you to have a shooting permit. You had better ask ahead of the shoot, to avoid unnecessary complications.
SEEBURGPARK KREUZLINGEN
This lovely park offers a fantastic setting for photoshoots. Situated on Lake Constance, and in walking distance to Kostanz, it is a fairly large park with a beautiful castle, a fun playground, mini zoo and natural lakeside walking areas. Sightseeing boat tours and Minigolf are fun options for the whole family. In summer, there is an open-air movie theater as well. And yes, endless lawn for romantic picnics.
So, whether you plan a photoshoot at this park, or simply a lazy Sunday afternoon with your family, it is definitely worth the trip.
